Searching for new energy and environmental protection are two hot issues in the world. The comprehensive application of catalytic materials, polymers and Li batteries has made great breakthroughs in this direction. Catalytic materials are the key to energy saving in chemical engineering. Polymer materials have been applied in many fields of chemistry. Li batteries and Li-S batteries stand out in the field of new energy. The rapid growth of global energy demand has promoted the development of new materials, batteries and polymers. Another way to solve the energy problem is to save energy and reduce emissions. CO2 emission reduction and utilization has become a standard measurement method in this field. Energy saving, emission reduction and environmental protection are inseparable. Energy conservation and emission reduction often play an important role in environmental protection and energy efficient utilization. Catalytic materials determine the conversion efficiency of CO2. The improvement of Li-S batteries efficiency requires the development and application of new polymers as electrolyte. In the background of energy demand, these areas need to be coordinated and closely cooperated. Where these fields intersect, new interdisciplinary disciplines will emerge. These emerging interdisciplinary disciplines will play the most important role in the future society. The rise of interdisciplinary disciplines is both a challenge and an opportunity for the development of all journals. The key lies in who firstly grasps the direction and pulse of development and lead this trend. Consequently, this special issue title is important and necessary for leading the trend.
